I started a watercolor of the day challenge for myself at the beginning of the pandemic. I was hoping it would keep me productive and inspired as I was cooped up every day in the house with my kids. It did! It's transformed into a watercolor series of portraits of antique plates. It's been a really fun project! They are available framed or unframed. The price range is between $300-$550. I love this plate! I have a set of 4 that I found in Maine. I just love this type of chinoiserie! I had to do millions of tiny dots to recreate the half tones and shadows so this was a tricky one.

This plate is my mother in law’s. Its gorgeous, hand painted. It was fun to recreate the chip on the edge that she had repaired.

I found this one at my local antique store here in Cambridge. I love how the back ground of this one turned out. The plate looks like its floating in the sky!

This is one of my great great grandmothers plates bought in Japan ages ago. I love these! I have a matching set of cups and saucers too :) I had to make the red paint quite dense to get that rich color. That made it hard to see my pencil drawing underneath, so was quite a challenge!

This plate is one of mine bought at Brimfield market. It was a challenge getting all the details right, but I love the fan design and I think the reddish brown is unusual and lovely.

I think this one might be my favorite! the crazy edge, the chipping gold rim, and the sweet flowers. It wasn’t easy painting the molded edge but I think I captured it pretty well.

I just love this charming plate! The sweet flowers were really fun to paint and recreating the brushed on look of the paint on the border was tricky.

This is one of my plates. I got two in Salem, MA. I love anything nautical! This one was challenging though, getting the color right etc.
I got this plate in an antique store in Brewster on Cape Cod. This was a tough one. There is a fine aged crackle in the glaze of the plate and some of it has absorbed a stain. I really wanted to recreate the crackle. Instead of trying to find the worlds finest brush I covered the paper in super fine scores using a razor blade. Then I painted over it with a wash in different colors and the cracks absorbed more of the paint. I think it turned out really well!

This sweet side plate was hand painted by my friend and neighbor Judy’s grandma. Poppies are one of my favorite flowers! The free flowing watercolor style of this plate was tricky to recreate.
